Curt, a young family business owner goes out to a neighborhood bar in Pittsburgh in 1984 on a routine hunt for a partner for the night, but he falls in with more than he is prepared to handle. Curt torments himself with a rocky relationship that comes and goes and comes back again, only to be lost again, and a continuing perplexing entanglement with his lover's mentally ailing sister in an age frighteningly accelerated by death from AIDS. Is this love or just coping by avoiding a morbid answer to the dark question posed to him by his lover's sister: Is life a meaningless struggle toward an inevitable nothingness?

 

In this first novella of a fantasy trilogy of a farcical world, Curt designs a hopeful answer to the struggle posed by life itself in a belief he knows to be untrue but chooses to believe it nevertheless. He finds happiness, but is it real or a fantasy?
